Are Buy to Let Investors Selling Out Due to Tax Changes?

I guess it all depends on whom you ask and when you ask that question. After all, people like to speculate and speculating the answer to that question might lead to the premise that the buy-to-let investor has every reason to get out now while the tax rate is reduced. However, not all buy-to-let investors have entered this area of the housing industry for the quick investment.

In fact, many buy-to-let investors are in it for the long haul complete with extensive buy-to-let portfolios and intentions of maintaining them for quite some time. With the reduction of the percentage from 40% to 18%, many landlords could realize quite a potential increase in savings. However, this only creates a beneficial situation for those buy-to-let investors who have entered the letting arena with the intention of selling quickly.

Unfortunately for some of those investors, the market fell so quickly and unexpectedly for those who got in at the top of the market, that right now might not be their best option for selling out. Plus, despite the fact that housing prices have dropped, the credit crunch has created an unsteady climate.

No one truly knows what to expect as far as housing prices, interest rates, and demand for rental properties. Potential homeowners are just as wary as buy-to-let investors. Therefore, the demand for buy-to-let properties remains high. Chances are that any buy-to-let properties located in a good area are going to be rented for a reasonable fee, allowing the buy-to-let investor to remain in the market for quite some time.
